MyCookin, story of a dream

15 min readMay 30, 2020

What if people could cook a little bit more than usual and sell their extra delicious homemade bread, or cake, to their neighbours?

That morning of the 8th of April, in 2012, I woke up with that idea in mind. I thought that people could easily get extra money from something that they already do every day, and start having the possibility to have that special homemade bread or pasta, or biscuits, that, you know, are better because they are homemade.

I called Saverio, my colleague and good friend since the first day I moved to Milan in 2008, and he came to my place to listen to my idea. We always thought of working together in something. We shared the passion for photography, web development and good food, and that project looked interesting and promising for both of us.

Since that day, we started working on it every Saturday and Sunday. Really. We probably missed a couple of days when we were home in Sicily to visit family, but apart from that, we met at my place, that became the official MyCookin office, also when I was having a (really) bad cough, or if I was returning home at 4 am with some extra beer in my body.

Yes, Saverio always arrived punctually to my place also if I texted him at 5am saying to take extra time during the morning before leaving.
